Inflammation and immune balance
When your immune system shifts out of balance, inflammation can run rampant — causing a chronic, smoldering fire inside your body that contributes to disease and weight gain. Managing inflammation is a key aspect to achieving wellness
Inflammation and Immune Health in Dallas: Common Questions
Chronic inflammation is measurable and it matters — it tracks with cardiovascular and metabolic risk. Dr. Rajan Kohli evaluates inflammatory markers as part of a broader medical assessment rather than treating a number in isolation.
How is inflammation actually measured?
With specific blood tests, most commonly C-reactive protein or high-sensitivity CRP, and where relevant erythrocyte sedimentation rate, ferritin and a complete blood count. These are interpreted together with your history, examination and metabolic markers. A single raised result is a prompt to look further, not a diagnosis in itself.
What raises inflammatory markers?
Common contributors include infection, obesity and insulin resistance, smoking, poor sleep and untreated sleep apnea, alcohol, autoimmune conditions, dental disease and chronic stress. Because the causes differ so much in seriousness, the point of testing is to find which applies to you.
Do I need a special anti-inflammatory diet?
There is no single validated anti-inflammatory diet, and claims made for specific products often outrun the evidence. What is well supported is more consistent: adequate sleep, regular activity, weight management where relevant, limiting alcohol, stopping smoking, and treating the underlying medical conditions driving the inflammation.
Should I take supplements for inflammation?
Only where there is a documented deficiency or a specific medical reason. Supplements are not reviewed by the FDA for effectiveness before sale, and several interact with prescription medications including blood thinners. Bring what you are taking and Dr. Kohli will review it honestly with you.
Is testing covered by insurance?
Medically necessary testing is generally covered. Broad panels ordered without a clinical indication often are not. We tell you which is which before ordering.
