Psychiatry & Mood
Our mood is intricately linked to factors such as stress levels, sleep patterns, nutritional deficiencies, and psychological disorders. Researchers continue to explore the impact of various mental health therapies on overall psychological well-being, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive approach to mental health care.
At Lakewood Primary Care and Wellness, we offer treatment for a range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, bulimia, and anorexia. Our approach combines pharmaceutical medications with natural supplements and holistic strategies, such as mindfulness, yoga, and meditation, to support your mental health and promote overall well-being.
By integrating traditional and holistic methods, we aim to provide personalized care that addresses the contributing causes of mood disorders and supports long-term mental wellness. If you're seeking help with mood management or any psychiatric condition, our team is here to support you on your journey to better mental health.

Mood and Mental Health in Dallas: Common Questions
Depression and anxiety are medical conditions and are treated here as part of primary care. Dr. Rajan Kohli is board-certified in Family Medicine, evaluates and treats mood symptoms, and refers to psychiatry or therapy where that is what you need. Most visits are covered by insurance.
Can my primary care doctor treat depression and anxiety?
Yes. The majority of depression and anxiety in the United States is treated in primary care, and for many people that is the right setting — your physician already knows your history, your other conditions and your medications. Referral to psychiatry is made when symptoms are severe, complex, or not responding.
What happens at the first visit?
A conversation about what you are experiencing, how long it has been going on and how it affects your daily life, alongside a medical evaluation. Thyroid disease, anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, sleep apnea and certain medications all produce symptoms that look like depression, and those are checked rather than assumed away.
Will I be put on medication?
Not automatically. For milder symptoms, therapy and lifestyle measures may be enough. Where medication is appropriate, Dr. Kohli explains the options, the realistic timeline — most antidepressants take four to six weeks for full effect — and the side effects worth knowing about before you decide. It is your decision.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with the narrow legal exceptions that apply to all medical care, principally an immediate risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else. Everything else is protected health information like any other part of your record.
What if I am in crisis?
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Please do not wait for an appointment.
