Telemedicine in Dallas: Common Questions
Telemedicine lets you be seen from home or work for problems that do not require an examination — follow-ups, medication questions, lab result reviews and many acute complaints. Dr. Rajan Kohli sees established and new patients by video. Most insurance plans cover telemedicine visits.
What can be handled by video?
Follow-up on chronic conditions, medication adjustments and refills, lab and imaging result reviews, many rashes, colds and sinus symptoms, urinary complaints in some cases, mental health follow-up, and questions after a hospital stay. If Dr. Kohli decides you need to be examined in person, he will tell you during the visit and we will get you in.
What needs an in-person visit instead?
Anything requiring examination, a procedure, or same-visit testing — chest or abdominal pain, injuries, joint injections, a Pap smear, pellet insertion, skin biopsies, and most new problems where an examination changes the diagnosis. Annual physicals also require an in-person visit.
Is telemedicine covered by insurance?
Most commercial plans and Medicare cover telemedicine visits, though coverage rules have changed repeatedly in recent years and vary by plan. Our staff verifies your specific benefits before your appointment so you know your cost in advance.
Can you prescribe during a video visit?
Yes, for most medications, sent electronically to your pharmacy. Certain controlled substances have additional legal requirements that may require an in-person visit. Dr. Kohli will tell you if that applies to your medication.
What do I need for the visit?
A phone, tablet or computer with a camera, and a private place to talk. Have your medication list and any home readings such as blood pressure or blood sugar to hand. If you have a home blood pressure cuff, take a reading just before the visit.
