What is hormone pellet therapy?
Hormone pellet therapy delivers hormones through a small pellet placed just under the skin, where it releases over a period of months. It is one of several delivery methods for hormone treatment — others include creams, patches, injections and oral forms. Pellets are chosen by some patients for their convenience because they do not require weekly dosing. Whether pellets are the right method for you is a medical decision made after evaluation.
How the procedure works
After evaluation and testing confirm that treatment is appropriate, the pellet is placed in a brief in-office procedure under local anesthetic, usually in the upper hip area. Most patients return to normal activity quickly. Pellets typically last several months before replacement, and we schedule follow-up testing to guide timing and dosing.
Who is a candidate?
Candidacy is determined by your symptoms, your medical history and blood testing — not by symptoms alone. Pellet therapy is not right for everyone, and part of the evaluation is deciding whether treatment is indicated at all and, if so, which delivery method suits you. We will discuss the options, the monitoring involved, and the alternatives before anything is scheduled.
An honest note on compounded hormones
Many compounded hormone products, including some pellet formulations, are not FDA-approved. That does not make them inappropriate for every patient, but it is something you should understand before starting, and we discuss it openly as part of your evaluation. Our approach is conservative: diagnose first, treat when indicated, monitor with follow-up, and adjust based on your results.
Pellets for men and women
We use pellet therapy for eligible men — typically as one option in treating diagnosed low testosterone — and for eligible women, often in the context of perimenopause and menopause care. The evaluation, testing and monitoring are individualized to you. See our broader hormone therapy overview.
Safety and monitoring
Because hormone treatment affects the whole body, monitoring matters. We recheck your labs on a schedule, review your symptoms and any side effects, and adjust the plan accordingly. Treatment continues only while it is benefiting you and being tolerated.
Is pellet therapy covered by insurance?
The office evaluation and lab testing are often billable to insurance or Medicare as part of your medical care. Pellet therapy itself is frequently a self-pay service; we are transparent about cost before you decide. Call or text 214-810-4331 and we will explain what is covered and what is not for your situation.
