Joint & Muscle Injections
Many people suffer from joint and muscle pain as well as various orthopedic conditions, including knee or hip pain, frozen shoulder, arthritis, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. These conditions can be challenging and significantly impact daily activities. At Lakewood Primary Care and Wellness, we understand how difficult it is to live with pain. That’s why we offer joint and muscle injections as part of our minimally invasive, non-surgical interventions to help manage pain and support the diagnostic assessment of painful joints.
Procedure Overview:
- Steroid Injections: During the joint or muscle injection procedure, a combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is administered directly to the painful site. The steroid helps reduce inflammation, while the anesthetic provides immediate pain relief. This treatment can help alleviate pain and improve mobility over time.
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections: We also offer PRP injections for joint and tendon injuries. This treatment involves drawing a small amount of your blood, separating the platelet-rich plasma (which is rich in growth factors), and injecting it into the affected joint or tendon to support the body’s natural healing processes.
Benefits of Injections:
- Targeted Relief: These injections deliver medication directly to the site of pain, making them an effective option for pain management.
- Potential for Long-Term Relief: Many patients experience significant relief from pain following these injections, with results that can last for varying periods depending on the individual case.
If you are experiencing joint pain, muscle pain, or stiffness, we are here to help. We will discuss your condition in detail and address any concerns you may have. Our goal is to provide you with effective treatment options to improve your quality of life.

Joint and Muscle Injections in Dallas: Common Questions
Corticosteroid and trigger point injections can give meaningful relief for joint and muscle pain while the underlying problem is addressed. Dr. Rajan Kohli performs these in the office, after examining the joint and confirming an injection is the right step.
What conditions are treated with injections?
Commonly osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder or hip; bursitis; tendonitis including tennis and golfer's elbow; trigger finger; carpal tunnel syndrome; and muscular trigger points. The injection is one part of a plan that usually also includes activity modification and strengthening.
Does it hurt, and how fast does it work?
The injection itself takes a minute or two, and local anesthetic is often included so many patients feel relief almost immediately. That initial numbing wears off within hours, and the steroid effect typically begins over two to seven days. Some patients have a temporary flare of soreness in the first day or two.
How often can I have them?
Generally no more often than every three months in the same joint, and there is a practical limit over time — repeated corticosteroid injections can affect cartilage and nearby tissue. If you are needing frequent injections in the same joint, that is a signal to reconsider the overall plan rather than simply repeat.
What are the risks?
Uncommon but real: temporary blood sugar elevation which matters if you have diabetes, skin thinning or colour change at the site, a post-injection flare, and rarely infection or tendon weakening. These are discussed with you before you consent.
Is this covered by insurance?
Joint injections are generally covered by Medicare and commercial plans when medically necessary. Our staff verifies your benefits before your appointment.
