Annual Physicals
"
Regular health check-ups are essential for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or fitness level. Annual physical exams offer valuable insights into both your physical and mental health, helping to promote longevity and well-being. These wellness visits are crucial for identifying early signs of potential health issues before they become major problems.
What to Expect During Your Annual Physical
During your physical, we take a comprehensive approach by gathering information about your current health concerns, lifestyle patterns, dietary habits, and family and personal medical history. Depending on your age and medical background, we conduct a thorough physical examination and recommend appropriate tests as needed. These may include:
- Blood Tests: To check kidney and liver function, thyroid levels, cholesterol, and other age-appropriate screening tests, including cancer screenings. These tests help assess your risk for various conditions and guide preventive care.
Our Annual Physical Services Include:
- Adolescent Medical Issues: Addressing the unique health needs of adolescents.
- School, Sport & Camp Physicals: Ensuring children and teenagers are healthy and fit for participation in school, sports, and camp activities.
- Male Annual Physicals with EKG Testing: A comprehensive exam that includes cardiovascular screening.
- Well-Woman Annual Physicals with EKG Testing: A thorough check-up tailored to women's health needs, including cardiovascular screening.
- PAP Smears: Essential screening for cervical cancer.
- Pre-Employment Physicals: Assessing fitness for work and identifying any health concerns that may impact job performance.
- Surgical Clearance: Ensuring patients are medically fit to undergo surgery.
At Lakewood Primary Care and Wellness, we believe in the importance of proactive healthcare. Our annual physical exams are designed to help you maintain optimal health and catch potential issues early. Schedule your annual physical today to take control of your health and well-being.
Physicals and Surgical Clearance in Dallas: Common Questions
Annual physicals, school and sports physicals, and pre-operative clearance, performed by a board-certified Family Medicine physician. Most commercial plans cover one preventive visit per year at no cost, and Medicare covers an Annual Wellness Visit. Same-week appointments are usually available at our Walnut Hill Lane office.
What is included in an annual physical?
A full history and examination, vital signs, and screening chosen for your age, sex and risk — commonly blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose or A1c, kidney and liver function, thyroid and a blood count. Vaccines are reviewed and updated, and cancer screening referrals are arranged where due. You leave knowing your numbers and what they mean.
Is an annual physical the same as a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit?
No, and the difference matters for billing. A Medicare Annual Wellness Visit is a prevention-focused visit covering risk assessment, a screening schedule and cognitive review — it does not include a head-to-toe examination. A physical examination is a separate service. We explain which one you are scheduled for and what your plan covers before you come in.
How quickly can I get a sports or school physical?
Usually within a few days, and often same-week. Bring the form your school or league requires. Dr. Kohli completes and signs it at the visit so you are not waiting on paperwork afterward.
What is pre-operative surgical clearance?
Your surgeon asks for confirmation that you are medically fit for anesthesia and the procedure. That typically means an examination, a review of your medications — including which blood thinners or diabetes drugs to hold and when — and testing such as an ECG or blood work depending on your history. We send the report directly to your surgeon.
How long does clearance take?
Book as soon as your surgery date is set. Most clearances are completed within a week, and faster when testing is straightforward. Bring your surgeon's request and the date of the procedure.
