Am I in perimenopause or menopause?
Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause, when hormone levels shift and periods become irregular — it can start years before periods stop. Menopause is diagnosed after twelve months without a period. Symptoms often begin in perimenopause, and you do not have to wait until periods stop to be evaluated and treated.
Symptoms we treat
We help with hot flashes and night sweats, sleep disruption, mood and anxiety changes, brain fog, vaginal dryness, low libido, and weight and metabolic changes. Some of these overlap with thyroid and other conditions, so evaluation includes ruling those in or out through our thyroid care.
Hormone therapy — who is a candidate?
Hormone therapy can be an effective treatment for menopausal symptoms for many women, and it is not right for everyone. Whether you are a candidate depends on your symptoms, your health history and your personal risk factors, which we review together. Where hormone therapy is appropriate, we discuss the options — including systemic estrogen and progesterone and, for eligible patients, pellet therapy — and monitor treatment with follow-up. See our hormone therapy overview.
Non-hormonal options
If hormone therapy is not right for you, or not what you want, there are effective non-hormonal approaches for symptoms such as hot flashes and sleep, including certain medications and lifestyle strategies. We tailor the plan to your preferences and health.
Menopause, weight and metabolism
Metabolism and body composition often change around menopause. We address this as part of your care and, where appropriate, through our medical weight loss program, coordinated with the rest of your health.
Bone and heart health after menopause
Estrogen decline affects bone density and cardiovascular risk, so good menopause care looks beyond symptom relief. We include bone health, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes-risk screening in your plan, using guidance from The Menopause Society and standard preventive care.
What testing we run
Depending on your history, testing may include hormone levels, thyroid studies and metabolic labs. We use results alongside your symptoms to guide treatment, and we explain what each test means.
First visit and insurance
Your first visit includes a full history, examination and any needed labs, and you leave with a plan. Menopause and perimenopause visits are covered medical care under Medicare and most commercial plans; some specific hormone treatments may be self-pay. Call or text 214-810-4331 to confirm your plan.
